My dear Chaudhury Saheb,
As you are aware, there are scores of Protected Masjids in the capital territory of Delhi. There are also other unprotected Masjids and Dargahs. Most of them are registered with the Delhi Wakf Board.
We often read in the newspapers that the ASI is not paying due attention to the conservation of the Protected Masjids and to their repair and renovation. There are also complaints about other Masjids and Dargahs which also not come under the ASI but either there is massive encroachment on the campus, sometime on the sanctum sanctorum itself or they are being poorly managed.
We request that the Delhi Wakf Board should survey physical condition of all these Wakf properties, at lease once a year, and take up the question of their proper maintenance with the ASI or the Managing Committee, the Residents Welfare Association as the case may be.
I suggest that the Board consider the matter and appoint an Ancient Monuments Inspection Committee and mandate the Committee to submit a report to the Board in three months.
With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
(SYED SHAHABUDDIN)
Chaudhary Mateen Ahmad, MLA
