Statement

AIMMM Condemns the Shocking Assassination of Benazir Bhutto

Calls for Delegitimisation and Elimination of the Cult of Violence & Terrorism

Wishes People of Pakistan Success in Restoration of Constitutional Democracy as the Best Tribute to the Departed Leader

New Delhi: 28 Dec.07, Syed Shahabuddin, AIMMM President, has issued the following statement;

‘The shocking assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), is a great tragedy for Pakistan and has horrified the common man all over the sub continent.

‘The shocking assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), is a great tragedy for Pakistan and has horrified the common man all over the sub continent.

The AIMMM condemns the killing which was obviously politically motivated and well planned and offers its sincere condolences to the people of Pakistan and, in particular, to the leaders, members and supporters of the PPP.

Her assassination at this critical juncture has not only destabilized Pakistan but put a question mark on its very survival as a functional state in the long term which demands delegitimising and controlling the cult of violence and terrorism.

The immediate task of the people is to restore constitutional democracy, an objective for which Benazir Bhutto braved known threats and courageously returned to Pakistan and tried to consolidate democratic forces. Restoration of democracy shall be the best tribute the people of Pakistan can pay to the departed leader. The AIMMM wishes them every success.
